Career Renegade – Useful Links

October 25th, 2010 No comments

So in my last post I told you how the last two pages of this book were worth the price of it, and based off my own internal read system I gave it a “good read”. Well I’m starting to rethink that and it is coming close to a “must read”. Especially after I went back through all my notes in the book.

I share a few of them with you here:

Producing Printed Material:
www.lulu.com – Lulu maybe a good resource to turn your material into a book, manual or e-book. Their ability to make the content available in multiple formats while also handling the hosting and sales transactions make this one worthy of further research.

www.48hourprint.com – Good for small run quick turnaround items. They do have the ability to print larger and longer runs or booklets up to 48 pages.

www.cafepress.com – This is a great site for selling merchandise like t-shirts, sweatshirts, pants, etc. Use it for a charity thing or your local little league. The best part is that you don’t hold any inventory until someone purchases something. Cafepress handles all of the logistics of your order.

Video Editing and Production:
www.camtasia.com – A screen capture software that allows you to record what you are doing on your computer screen. With windows machines, it enables you to add audio as well. This is an excellent tool for building online training modules for new employees, procedures or just to teach others how to do something through video.

www.onlinevideotoolkit.com – Great collection of free online videos on everything from equipment to editing, lighting, and publishing.

www.metacafe.com – This is a video sharing website that features very short videos. However, if you subscribe to it’s producer rewards program. You will be able to submit videos and, if chosen you can earn $5.00 per one thousand views. If you are able to have your videos go viral, this is free money in the bank.

Online Searches:
http://tools.seobook.com/keyword-tools/seobook/ – Offers you the ability to search for usable key words that show search volumes, trends, with links to topix.net, Google blog search and many others.

www.clusty.com – This site allows you to type in keywords or phrases, but, rather than kicking back a list of pages that could leave you searching for days, it adds a menu on the left side that clusters the top results by topic. This feature allows you to immediately rule out entire groups of websites that are only slightly related or completely unrelated to what you are searching for.

Web Portals for learning:
www.w3schools.com – This website offers an extensive library of free tools, tips, and even full courses on website design and building.

www.digital-photography-school.com – Offers in depth instruction on digital photography, product reviews, and forums to facilitate interaction between members.

www.problogger.net – This website shares extensive information and weekly instructional videos on the process of launching, growing, marketing, and profiting from blogging.

www.sba.gov – Run by the small business administration. It provides a wealth of information about planning, funding, starting, managing and growing a small business.

www.warriorforum.com – This is a massivie online forum is a great resource for anyone interested in learning about online marketing and copywriting.

www.itunes.com – Itunes offers free high value online academic lectures as free downloadable content. Just go to Itunes and search for I tunes university.

www.ocwconsortium.org –  This is a free online consortium with the likes of MIT, Berkeley, Tufts, Carnegie Melon, Yale, Notre Dame, Johns Hopkins and UMass making lectures and materials from thousands of courses available to the public for free. Access to this level of instruction and information for free is simply unprecedented.
